CARE
Izm products are made of solid wood and with proper care will last generations.
Our pieces are finished with a hand rubbed, zero v.o.c. oil to enhance & maintain the natural beauty of the wood. Although this does provide a level of protection, the finish is not impervious to wear. The following tips can extend the life of your piece and even eliminate the need to refinish:
Regular dusting should be done with a dry, clean, soft cotton cloth. In the case of spills or food on the surface, moisten a soft, cotton cloth with warm water, wipe the area clean. Then dry immediately with a dry soft, cotton cloth. If needed, a mixture of mild soap and warm water may be used.
Do not use abrasive cloths or pads.
Do not use harsh cleaning products , detergents, window cleaners, solvent or ammonia based products.
Do not use furniture wax or paste.
Try to keep temperature and humidity as constant as possible. Extreme changes can cause the wood to become dry or even crack. This includes not placing pieces directly over heating or a/c vents.
Do not place hot or moist objects directly on the surface and avoid using plastic or rubber place mats. All of these can leave marks on the surface.
Do not leave runners, place mats, or objects de’ art on the table for extended amounts of time in one place, especially in direct sun, as this may leave “ghosting”.
Over time your piece will require a fresh coat of oil. You will notice the surface begin to look “dry” or lose its sheen. It is not necessary to re-oil the entire piece. While a table top may require a fresh coat 2 or 3 times a year, the base may be fine for years.
The areas to be oiled must be clean and dry. We recommend a zero or low v.o.c. oil as solvent based oils produce harmful off gasses. With a sponge or cotton cloth, wipe a very thin coat, not pooling but enough to look damp, over the surfaces. Let this set for roughly 5 minutes then wipe dry with a soft, cotton cloth. Wipe it down again in about an hour. The oil should be completely dry in 24 hours (probably less). Do not place objects on or use the furniture until it feels dry to the touch.
If ever you are in doubt please consult a professional.
